The Best Bike Ride in Every State, A Fool’s Errand

This quest of mine began in college after a bike ride. I was lying on my couch eating a frozen pizza and reading a Bicycling Magazine article titled “The Best Bicycle Rides in Every State”. As I read the descriptions of cycling around Crater Lake, along the ocean shores of Lopez Island, and up to the top of Mt. Evans, I thought, I must do these rides. So began a journey to do the best bike ride in every state.

Over time the goal shifted from doing the recommendations in the magazine, to what it is today. Just do a fun ride, a jolly route, in every state. I’ve also since expanded the scope further to add Frozen Treks, Rambles, and Watery Voyages to my original cycling mission. 50 bike rides in 50 states are doable, especially over a lifetime. But three more jolly routes? Now that’s a fool’s errand.
